Hello!

Hi!

My name is Gracie, I am 22 and I live in Orlando, FL. I am an art history major with a minor in women's studies. I am a transfer student from Seminole Community College where I was originally a psychology major. In fact, I had no interest in art whatsoever. By a series of mistakes I was dropped from every class I had enrolled in for my very first semester. Most classes were full, so I begrudgenly ended up in a Renaissance humanities class. This class was where my world changed. I never understood people that had a passion for art until that day. I remained a psychology major until a semester until I graduated and then I finally worked up the courage to change my major. I then transferred to UCF after getting my associates degree. I decided to pick up a women's studies minor after taking a Women in Art class. There I learned how little respect and representation women get in the art world, and the rest is history. I also spend a lot of my spare time working as a bartender. I enjoy the actual job, but people can be mean and I wish that would change. I'm also an intern at a local art gallery and LOVE that. I would give anything to be surrounded by art for the rest of my life.

Surprisingly enough I have never actually taken a women's studies class in person before. All my classes previously were online. I'm excited to actually have discussions that do not require waiting for the next response. I also think it will actually help me grasp the reality of the subjects we are looking at. As for my taking this class, I am not very well versed in women's studies and I am even less versed in global and transnational feminism. I don't particularly have strong views when it comes to feminism, not because I am not passionate. I just don't have the basic understanding that many other people when it comes to the subject. I hope to have this class open my eyes, test the opinions I already have, and help me to formulate my own new opinions.

I love college, I guess you could say I'm typical in that way. My thirst for knowledge will never be quenched, if I could stay forever I would. I'd consider myself a hard worker, the only problem I face is fitting everything into the 24 hours I have a day. If days or weeks were longer I would still have no problem filling my days. I procrastinate but somehow manage to get everything done.

I have read, understand, and agree to the terms of the course syllabus and the blogging protocols.

  1. Gracie,
I hail from SSC, well really SCC. I graduate there and then came back and taught ENC there for a little while.
I am so glad that you are in this course and that you have decided to learn about global and transnational feminisms-- something most people in the U.S. have never even heard about. Don't worry so much about knowing what everyone else does or having all the right answers. Mostly we are all just going to talk our way through some difficult ideas and begin to discuss what we think that might mean for people working worldwide for gender equity.
Thanks for sharing your passion for art. I hope that you will be able to use this knowledge to inform your service for the course. Also, I hope that you speak up. It would be great to hear from you.
